The Third Biennial Conference of the World Tort Law Society was Held in Wake Forest University Law School

The Third Biennial Conference of the World Tort Law Society was Held in Wake Forest University Law School on Nov.14th-18th ,2017. 18 executive committee members from the World Tort Law Society and 10 invited representatives participated in the conference. They were from Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Michigan, New York University, Duke University, Wake Forest University, Oxford University, Bristol University, Universit¨¦ Paris 2 Panth¨¦on-Assas, Humboldt-Universität Zu Berlin , Bocconi University, University of Vienna , Leiden University, University of Ottawa, Universidad de Navarra£¬University of Cape Town, University of New England , University of Haifa , Kyoto University, Malaysia National University of Malaysia, Renmin University of China, Sichuan University, Heilongjiang University , Fu Jen Catholic University of Taiwan ,and Macao University.


The theme of this year was ¡°The World Tort Law Society Report II: Responsibility for Road Traffic Accidents in a Global Perspective¡±, which was divided into 9 parts and held the executive committee and executive board meetings. Part one was the debate on the foundations of Tort Law: Causation. Part two was about road traffic accidents: General Remarks on Special Legal Systems and the Overview and Interplay of Compensation Systems. Part three was case No.1: Child Knocked Over. Part four was case No.2: Accidents Involving Two Drivers. Part five was case No.3: Consent to Drunk Ride. Part six was case No.4: Brake Failure. Part seven was about Automobiles, Tort Law and Insurance. Part eight was: Motor Vehicle Accidents around the World. Part nine was: Judicial Practice Feedback on Road Traffic Accidents in the United States.


The Council amended the statutes of the World Tort Law Society, limited the total number of the directors to 30, and decided that two of the directors who failed to fulfill their duties should withdraw from the Council according to the statutes. The Council reelected the chairman and the executive committee. Professor Yang Lixin was voted unanimously as the second president of the World Tort Law Society. Professor John Goldberg of Harvard University, Professor Mark Lunney of the University of New England, Professor Ernst Karner of the Vienna University and Professor Jung-Lung Chen of Fu Jen Catholic University of Taiwan in our country were elected as members of the second executive committee. The Council added Professor Yao Hui from Renmin University of China as a Council member and commissioned Professor Yao Hui as the co-reporter for "World Tort Law Society Report III: Protection of Personality Rights in the Era of Information."
The Council unanimously consented to the title of Professor Helmut Koziol of University of Vienna as the Emeritus Professor of the World Tort Law Society. At the inauguration ceremony, Professor Yang Lixin, on behalf of all the executive committee, awarded a special commemorative medal to Professor Helmut Koziol and fully affirmed his great contribution to the World Tort Law Society.


Professor Yang Lixin, on behalf of the WTLS, submitted the banner to Professor Huang Shiting, the representative of the Law School of Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan, who would be the organizer of the Fourth Biennial Conference of the World Tort Law Society in 2019.
