World Tort Law Society was established jointly by Research Center of Civil and Commercial Jurisprudence of Renmin University of China, European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law, and Institute for European Tort Law (Austria). The president of the society is Prof. Helmut Koziol (Austria) and its members of the executive committee include Prof. Lixin YANG (P.R.China), Prof. Ken Oliphant (UK), and Prof. Michael D. Green (USA). The 26 founding members are from 21 countries and regions, including the USA, Austria, UK, P.R.China, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Australia, South Africa, Israel, Chile, Japan, South Korea, Russia, India, Malaysia, Taiwan of China, and Macao of China.
It is an international academic society on tort laws for different countries and regions of the world. The name "World Tort Law Society" is abbreviated as "WTLS". The aim of the society is to unit scholars of tort law and practitioners of justice in different countries and regions in the world to carry out comparative studies on theories and practice of tort law for promoting the development of tort law theory and practice worldwide.
The task of the society include: I. organizing scholars of tort law from different countries and regions in the world to carry out in-depth research into theories of tort law and its judicial practice to promote its integration and unification; II. organizing academic exchange and cooperation among scholars of tort law from different countries and regions in the world to reflect the latest development trends of tort law in the world and enhance information exchange and transmission; III. implementing and promoting the academic exchange and cooperation on tort law among different academic institutions in the world; IV. editing and publishing books and journals in the field of comparative tort law; V. promoting the education and training of talents in tort law in different countries and regions in the whole world.
